A New Standard for Aquaculture Probiotics: Persistence First, Not Repeat Dosing

1 min read

Aquaculture loses an estimated USD 6 billion annually to disease, while antibiotic resistance keeps rising. Farmers need alternatives, but most probiotics require repeated dosing, and once application stops, the benefit fades.

Our approach reverses the conventional pipeline. We select first for durable host association using evolutionary genomic signals, then validate post-dosing persistence and production benefit.

Why this is a genuinely new technology for aquaculture:

  • Persistence-first selection: We predict which candidates will stay in the host.

  • Validated in a living host: In a coral host, a probiotic selected this way remained detectable for 8 months after a single inoculation, through a natural bleaching event, and improved thermal tolerance.

  • Transferable principle: The value is not the coral strain itself, but the selection logic. Persistence is predicted before benefit is tested.

  • Commercial ROI: Fewer re-applications, more predictable field results, lower antibiotic pressure.

  • Scalable pipeline: A framework designed for commercially relevant fish and shrimp species.

This is not just another probiotic. It is a new operating system for aquaculture microbiome management.
